I am going on an 18 hour flight. Any recommendations for a good book? Fiction/non-fiction/autobiographical. I am a very quick reader.

Marley and Me: Love and Life with the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan is a great. One of the funniest books I've ever read. Absolute must read.

A long way gone: Memoirs of a boy soldier by Ishmael Beah is an amazing book. Very sad and a real eye opener of things going on in the world.

I personally LOVE Nicholas Sparks, if your into heart-wrenching love stories. His best ones are The Wedding (would recommend reading the Notebook first), Nights in Rodanthe and also, The Rescue.

Someone very different from me recommended Dean Koontz' "Odd Thomas" and it was just because I respect that person that I gave the book a try, though I thought I'd hate Koontz' writing.

Man! Was I surprised--I absolutely craved reading the book and after finishing it went right on to read second book in the series, "Forever Odd". This past Christmas I gave my husband "Brother Odd". He'd read "Odd Thomas" when I did and he was the one who went to the library to get "Forever Odd" because he liked the book so much. Usually he and I don't read any of the same books; he likes science fiction and I tend to like mysteries and historical fiction.

I'd really recommend you take one or two Thomases with you.

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez is probably one of the best books I have ever read. It takes a while to get used to, but it follows a family through several generations and has a lot to say about life, family, and death. It's beautiful.

Otherwise, I'd recommend:

A Farewell to Arms by Hemingway (really anything by him is good)

A People's History of the United States by Zinn (you probably won't get through it, but it's the most interesting book about history I've ever read)

The Collected Stories of Edgar Allen Poe (always a fun read)

Have fun!
