The world would be a better place if religion was non existent. No matter how you look at it ALL wars are because of religion in some shape or form. Instead lets teach our kids the right to think how they want and let them choose the paths they lead.

I don't think it's a problem any one person can solve, considering teaching and not teaching both have the potential for the same outcome. Religion causes wars, yes. But if no one believed in a god, then where would our morals come from? If there was no higher being then ourselves, who would define how we should behave? That could also lead to fighting and killing.

Sure, sure lovely idea.

But who gets to decide if God exists? And in what religion? If you teach Christianity, than the Mormons and the Catholics and Pagans and Muslims are going to be quite unhappy, don't you think? Or vice-versa, actually.

Religion does cause war and violence. Have you read a newspaper in the last several hundred years? Religion is a plague upon humanity.

God may or may not exist but how people view him/her/it is what causes the wars and violence. Most religions do not have any tolerance for views different from their dogma. Free thinking is not allowed. Organised religion is a control mechanism by those with power over the masses. As Karl Marx said, "Religion is the opium of the people".

I believe that children should know about other people's belief systems but no one religion or belief system should be pushed as "better" or "right". The existence of the ultimate cause, as God, and the essential nature of things are unknown and unknowable, and that human knowledge is limited to experience.

I think children should be left free to make up their own minds. My parents left the choice about religion up to my sister and me. All they asked was for us to explore their religion but the ultimate decision was left up to us individually. I am agnostic and do not hold with any religious belief [hence the earlier part of my answer] but my sister goes regularly to church with her family.

Hello,

(ANS) First of all God definitely DOESN'T EXIST. God is just a human construct, an idea, a concept invented by humans for humans.

**ALL religion & religious beliefs should be kept completely separate from education and kept out of the affairs of state (state & church should not be mixed).

**Religious brainwashing shouldn't be allowed in any schools, especially of young innocent children.

**Religion is now the cause of far more pain, suffering & death than it is a cause for good in the world in my opinion.

**The cynic in me says, if humans didn't have religion to war over then humans would invent something else to war over with pretty much the same consequences as religion. Humans DON'T seem to be capable of living for very long in a condition of peaceful coexistence with each other. Sadly human history seems to prove this point, enough said.

It is appropriate to teach children the truth, so far as you can and it's appropriate for them to know. I know very few people who would dispute this.

If some god is demonstrably existant, then that truth should be no exception.

But keep in mind that at this point we are not talking about RELIGION or THEOLOGY... we're talking about a scientific study of god. A field that doesn't not presently exist to any great degree.

Yes we should - but from an objective point of view. The cause of wars between people of different relgions is intolerance, ignorance, misunderstanding and propaganda.

The crux of the problem is that 3 of the worlds main religions teach that theirs is the one true religion, and to follow other religions, or to have no faith at all, is a sin. There is an intolerance bred into believers from a young age that "we are right and they are wrong."

Instead we must teach others and learn about other religions and cultures - we must learn to understand that it is OK to follow our own beliefs, but we must also respect the rights of others to follow theirs, even if they're different. We must find out about other religions and celebrate the variety of life, rather than condemn it and treat those differences as something to be feared.

We must also learn that it's OK to not believe in God, or to be unsure of his/her/it's existence. People should not be shunned for their choice of beliefs, or lack of. It is through education, communication and integration that we will solve the fear created through segregation, assumption and ignorance.

The wars do not start because of a believe in a God or because of religion itself. All religion is run by people. Those people enjoy the power that they have over other people. To keep that people, they have to have fear of a God, of death, of life after death. They also have to believe that they are the only religion that can help what happens after death. It is not God that does that. It is man manipulating our concepts of God that creates the power and the violence.

God gave us free will; which i suppose means that he wouldn't be here every 5 seconds telling us what went wrong... if he did then we'd not learn by our mistakes and there would be no point in the world existing... also i think we should learn about all religions and only if we chose too... Religion isn't compulsory really; it's a choice and we have the right the to choose.

I do think we should teach our children about him most surely. Teaching children about God or Jesus is not a bad thing. Yes there is war and violence in some parts of the bible, but without reading it you wouldn't understand christian faith would you?

There are no gods devils or other spirit beings.
Things of that nature were invented by men.
Man made god in his own image.
It is however good to know about religions and religious belief, as this can help us understand how people who do believe in such things feel about that sort of thing.
I would not promote teaching these beliefs as though facts as they are not, they are merely beliefs.
Children should be made aware of this so that they will be less likely to be conned by religion.
