I would think that any new fabric is string enough, but if you want to be safe, do not use 'summer dress' fabric, but go for something you would want a pair of winter trousers (pants for the USA) out of.
Jeans is great. New fleece blankets or the fabric to make your own. Just go to a fabric shop and see what is there.
Or go for a traditional netted hammock, you can buy net, or make it yourself.

If you can find a tent at a yard sale you are lucky, if it is not too old you can get two hammocks out of a tent, more if it is a big one.

I know it doesn't sound to glamorous but you could use the army canvas you could get the fabric at an army surplus store! The best material to use would be a pup tent!

You can buy cavas duck (yes, that's what it's called) or trigger cloth at a fabric store like JoAnn's or Hancock's.
