I have a 100mV 12v device that I would like to run continuously in a car.

Before doing this I would like to check this will not run the battery down too much causing the car not to start.

What is the standard current available in a 12v car battery / how would I work out if this would be ok or not?

Correction, I meant 100mA.

I basically would like to leave it plugged in / powered all the time.

I assume you meant 100ma instead of 100mv. That is .1A and you want to run it for how many hours before you restart the engine. Most likely will be OK. Try it and see what happens. It will also depend on the condition of the battery.
