My boyfriend is a rapper/MC/lyricist and he writes a lot of positive and conscious things in his music. I want to create a radio station/TV station/ Magazine/ or Record label that only features positive and conscious hip-hop music like Common, Wyclef Jean, Nas, Talib Kaleli, Alicia Keys, India Arie, etc, etc. I'm 16 years old and I think that Hip-ho pand rap music today is very horrible and it lost its message. I'm trying to find a cure for hip-hops illness.

Well Alicia Keys and India Arie aren't hip hop..more like R&B but I get your point. But BET Jazz station focuses more on the better part of music, they play more neo-soul than anything

Hip-hop is in a slump right now, but if my boy 50 can come out wit some good stuff and rappers stop beefin, we can get the game turned back around. Having said that, i also support what you are trying to do. Good luck to you! Jypcee, what type of questions has she asked in the past? Is she one of these self-hating Africans????

The disease is right inside the music labels who market this "Scar Face" idea of all urban centers not neccessarily to youths in the 'hood, but to young people in the suburbs. War in the streets sells as much as calls for peace overseas. I wish you luck and pursue your dream....the multi-national companies will hate you for it if you can help bring real music from the 'hood.

I would love to see that but unfortunately it wont sell. "Mainstream youth", mainly white teenagers, are obsessed with the black stereotypes that are portrayed by rappers like 50 cent and Cash money. And they make up more then 70% of rap album sales. The answer would be to stop supporting the bad stuff but its kind of hard to do that when you are not the one buying the bad stuff.

At 16 you're already part of the cure! I applaud you for not being like the majority of teens of color who listen to the (c)rap that is force fed to us on TV and the radio.
I know that you will set an example to other teens to follow.
Not sure if the (c)rap will go away though, because the world loves to view or in this case, listen to immorality.

A cure? Probably not. I just don't listen to it. You have the right idea by creating something tho. Go for it.

Don't listen to the low grade stuff, don't buy the low grade stuff. Encourage people you know to do the same.
