I'm worried that work with the DNC will hurt my chances with the heavily republican-populated business world. Would the internship be a plus for my resume or a negative?

The people foolish enough not to hire you for your political affiliations aren't worth your time anyway. You'll find that the most rabid people on either political spectrum (ideology speaking - the ones who would refuse to hire you) aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the ceiling, and aren't going to be that skilled in the business world.

The world is not dominated by Republicans and most people would appreciate the skills you'd gain at the DNC.

I don't think that most people really care, so long as you don't drive to your future job interviews with your automobile covered in DNC bumber stickers.

If it appears on your resume, be sure to point-out that it was just an opportunity for you to learn how to run an organization. You can can tell the interviewer that you are pretty much apolitical and that after all, Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat, before he became a Republican.

Heck, look at Senator Lieberman. He lost in the Democratic primary, but was able to hold onto his Senate seat by running as an independant with the support of the Republican Party. And, remember, that was Al Gore's running-mate on the Democratic ticket in the 2000 Presidential election!

I hope some of these people will acquire an MBA before stating opinions. I own a company, and my B/F has an MBA, as well as a PhD. We deal with companies across the nation, and I can tell you without a doubt that many companies look at one's political views --yeah, give me a "thumbs down", and that just reinforces what I am saying. Companies assess tests like an MMPI to look at "how" perspective employees think. Ever wonder why you never get called back after an initial interview, knowing you were right for that job? Knowing you spilled your guts on the resume and during the interview -- positioning yourself against someone's deep-rooted political views and agenda. We have prejudice in this country that goes far beyond sexual preference. Be careful....

If you think the world of business is dominated by Republicans you aren't sophisticated enough for the internship yet. NO, it will not affect your future prospects.
