It is a lifetime commitment, that is hard work and takes communication, commitment, honesty, love, & respect by both parties.

To me marriage is extremely serious. I take the vows at face value. I make the promise and I keep it. Marriage is a partnership wherein two people in love endeavor to remain together their entire life. I believe that before a couple gets married they should list short term and long term goals. Get a basic idea of how these will be accomplished. One of the goals should be to stay together and each needs to realize that the other will change over the years and each needs to learn to be accepting of the other, as long as abuse is not happening.
I believe a married couple heads toward the future, hand in hand, ready for all the experiences that come with life, love, marriage and family.

My experience is that marriage is about committment regardless of how you 'feel'.

Marriage means sacrifice, work, perseverance, accepting change, growing together regardless of your present feelings.

Feelings are fickle, they change, they are an unreliable source to base a decision on.

Now don't get me wrong, there are benefits to marriage and good feelings that accompany some aspects of marriage, but don't be fooled, that is just part of the picture. Marriage to the right person at the right time is a wonderful thing. Marriage to the wrong person at the wrong time in either of your lives and personal growth will be disastrous.

Good Luck!

Another great question. I have been happily married for over 17 years now. And at the time we were making out vows, we were completely different people. I guess we wanted something in a way of happily ever after. Dreams are great, but they are for young children. At this stage of life, I would describe marriage as extraordinary ability to share of yourself without reservations, without asking for anything in return. Sharing and great friendship are huge on our list of things we as a family can't live without. There are also complete acceptance of each other no matter how badly we screw up at times and ability always enjoy each others company. So, our ability to explain exactly what we looked for in the marriage had changed with time, but one thing never did: we were lucky to find one irreplaceable person in our lives in each other. Marriage was one way we knew of to keep us together for ever.

well from a mans point of view, newly married for almost a year, what it means to me is sacrifice, dedication and making all decisions together as a team. being partners and the main focus in each others lives, even after having kids. still a unity, and a team. my first marriage, my wifes 3rd. she sees it much differently than i, this being #3. and its very sad. marriage is sacrifice, dedication, and becoming one with each other. depends on what you want out of the marriage. for me, i want the fairy tale.

A sacred union between two people who intend to share the rest of their lives together.

I'm not religious, but I consider the oath of marriage sacred in any circumstance. It means caring for one another, remaining faithful and honest, and putting each others happiness before all else.

Marriage to me means having someone there for you always, someone to hold you, love you no matter what your flaws or what promblems come your way, marriage to me means love forever, it is such a beautiful thing, it's so nice to know you always have someone there for you and to talk to and to hold ....it's a commitment that you want to spend the rest of your life with this person and it's hard work but so well worth it.

MARRIAGE IS AS MUCH a business relationship as it it a love relationship. the love and affection goes sour and then you should at least have another aspect functioning to make it worth it. my advice is just not to get married.
