According to this research:
http://www.seta.iastate.edu/landvalue/states.aspx
The average land value of cropland in the continental US is $1540 per acre. It's ugly, but let's assume that nearly worthless desert land and ridiculously valuable city real estate balance out in the end, so that the average value per acre in the world is $1540.

There are an estimated 57 million square miles of dry land on the surface of the earth, which is about 36.48 billion acres.

Multiply the two together and you could buy all of the dry land in the world for the nifty sum of $56.18 trillion.

Right at the moment it's irreplaceable.

You sound like you'd be a fan of David Brin's "Uplift Universe" series of books. Look for them at your local public library. In this series, an intelligent species does not own the planet it lives on -- and, after a period of time, must either "lease" it or vacate the premises.

I think most would agree its priceless. You can put dollar amounts on natural resources but you really can't on a planet that is so complex enough that it can provide these seeminly endless number of resources and in some cases even renew them.

You could probably buy it for a limited time, from the devil. Who would sell it to you for the ownership of your eternal soul. Though the world is not his to sell.
