We already won the war. The regime was removed, the leader is dead. What do you not understand about this?

If you mean "win the war" in the civil war, just which side do you think we should be on? Come on, man up here. Do we side with the Shiites, The Sunnis, the Kurds? Do we make our alliance with a particular tribe like the al Tikriti?

The president said we won the war "Mission Accomplished" is what he said. Are you saying the president is a liar? Are you some kind of subversive yourself?

If you mean "win the war" on terror, no, *I* don't believe that we can do so, at least not in Iraq with guns and bombs. There are Muslims all over the world (and in this country as well) with us in their sights. As they say, this is a global game of "Whack-a-mole". If we ever stop the violence in Iraq (maybe 10 years or more) there will be terrorists in other countries just waiting for the chance to do a little whacking of their own.

We could pull the troops today, we could get them out in 5 years from now. The result is going to be the same. The Iraq government is ruled by religion. That is what motivates everything they do. Their religious beliefs. And they can't set up a system that makes everyone happy. No enough of one sect or another. Imagine trying to get an even balance in our government of all the major religions here in the US. You have to equally represent Catholics, Baptists, and on and on ( I mean to offend noboby's religious beliefs, there are TONS of active religions in the US, I am not going to list them all).
Now imagine trying to the same number of government officials from each religion. And if one of those groups doesn't like it, how do they solve it? Well, over there, by physical violence.
We won "the war". We do as we damned well please over there. The war on terrorism isn't over, and I don't think it will be, as there will always be fanatics. The hope is, they will realize we won't stand for it. Let them pull their BS elsewhere. But Bin Laden is still loose. So, taking over Iraq is done, war on terrorism is not done, and I don't think the Iraq government can take care of its own country after we are gone, be that now, or way down the road. And that is a separate issue from "the war". That is trying to make a country of people believe their religious beliefs have nothing to do with the running of their country, which has been run by various religious sects in the past. Religion is a strong motivator. And almost impossible to make people give up.
Iraq is not the only country run that way. The whole Middle East is always going to be a hotbed of killing. I don't think the US can change that. I think we need to concentrate on keeping Americans safe here at home.
By the way, I do applaud and support our troops. They are doing as they are told, and doing a wonderful job. I think it is time to bring them home, but that is because I have had family in the military and I feel that enough of our troops have died. But they are going to tell you, they are doing the right thing, what needs to be done. I just hate seeing our troops being killed is all.

Define a win. It started out as a pointless war in the first place. Then, the people we were going to defend (that weren't in any worse situation than 30 other countries worldwide) started becoming the enemy. So, it is a conundrum because the only way to win is either to destroy every Iraqi that might cross-over, destroy every Muslim, or destroy the countries feeding them the terrorists.

There is no win if both sides are fighting different wars. We defeated Iraq, but we are fighting the Muslim way of life now. And can you blame them? What if some country came over here and started killing our women and children? You;d have a lot of people that never thought of joining the military on the front lines.

Because if you have a brain, and have learn how assymetric warefar works, then you will understand, that a war against a country can works, but a war against terrorism can never end!! Its a spiral things, the more you fight, the more trouble you get... The USSR have stumbled upon it, and learn from it, and get out of the way too!! You think America is SOOOO great that it cannot lose a war?? Then what about Vietnam? Do you think you have more chances to win in Iraq than Vietnams because you have bigger guns!!!

If you learn history, you will know that to control France during the WWII, the Germans have needed 900000 troops to gain complete controls over them, and yet France at that time, was about the population of Iraq now, and not that bigger... So do you REALLY think that the US could even control a desert with 24millions peoples with only 150000 soldiers? You can invade yes, but cannot occupy... Your forces there, will only move on the next target, Iran...

If you really want to win the war on terrorism or at least achieve a serious blow with no military solution, then the USA (this includes everyone) needs to stop funding terrorism! That’s right, just about everyone in the USA has funded terrorism. The USA is too dependant on Middle Eastern Oil! It was said that when the Iranians captured the Brits in March they (Iran) made an additional $100M+ a day from the oil price spike during that incident. You can argue this topic a number of different ways, but if we become independent of Middle Eastern Oil it will defiantly hurt terrorist funding.

let's go over it, shall we?:

1. we already accomplished the mission, we already won the war when we got Saddam.

2. The Director of the CIA who is also head of the Iraq Study Group, General Hayden, told the President in November '06 that the Iraqi government is not capable of governing and he sees no way to reverse it.

3. History has shown us these people have been fighting over 1000 years. How do we win there?

We already won the war. Now we must fight to keep the peace, which is highly unlikely with US military presence. US military presence in Iraq is permanent.

The " War " was won in 2 months. The aftermath and policing of Iraq continues as we await the Iraqi government to build it's army and police forces.

To all those people who say “we have to win this war”, how do we do so? Our administration cannot even define terms of victory. Many of the people fighting us are nameless, faceless, countryless fighters. To think that “winning in Iraq” will simply stop Islamic terrorism is absurd and terrorism cannot be defeated solely by military means but my winning the hearts & minds of the people who may eventually become terrorists.

We can win the Iraq War, but we must make a better plan. Technically, we have won it. The goals were to take our Saddam and install a democracy, and we did take out Saddam and we did install a democratic government, even if it is not a stable one.
