The Republicans know that if they go into the elections of 2008 with this Iraq war hanging over their head, that they’re going to suffer a massive political defeat!

Not a real good question as you haven't mentioned the Democrats that support the Iraq situation, and you haven't mentioned that the Pelosi Crowd aren't doing much about it either, I am an independent as I see it, one party is about the same as the other. Further more to the Republicans and the demo crates come down off of you horse and wake the h*** up and realize that they don't give two hoots in H*** about you or me. They just play the game to stay in power,....and $165,000 a year and be able to lecture at large amounts of money.

I compare Iraq to a bank robbery. The robbers, surrounded by police forces, have made it clear they are not leaving without a fight. The S.W.A.T. team is brought in forcefully to remove the bandits. They storm the lobby and take out many robbers, securing the safe and teller line, but there are still a few bad guys lurking about with hostages. The remaining robbers have to be eliminated one by one while minimizing innocent casualties. Iraq is not a war as the media paints it, but an ongoing police action. Victory is obtained by reducing violent crimes to at least pre-war levels, and allowing an effective government to administer basic societal needs like security, health care, public works, etc. There are many oil fields in southern Iraq that are not even occupied or protected by Coalition troops. There is no secret GOP operation greedily pumping oil back to their mansions in the USA.

You see, this is one term Republicans and Democrats horribly misuse to their advantage. Flip-Flopping is when you change your stance not based on belief, rather based on what it can gain for you personally. If someone changes their stance because they have thought about it and have decided it is what is best then it's called being mature. I can't say that these guys have done one or the other.. but I would like to assume there is some good in humanity and be an optimist towards them. I know that's partly your point.. that you are actually jesting at the Republicans who claim "flip-flopping" this and that.. I just wanted to say this because both sides do use it to their advantage and it's just rediculous.

It's the same cowardice that made Hillary, John Kerry, and their ilk support the war, only to turn against it when it was politically beneficial to do so.

They, like most Americans, now know that their support of the invasion and occupation of Iraq was based on information that was falsified and assumptions that had no basis in fact. It took them a bit longer to get there because they didn't want to believe they had been lied to by their party's leaders. No one wanted to believe Nixon had lied either, but they eventually did.

They are elected by their constitutents, and they listen to their voices. If the constituents say "end the war," they say end the war. If the constituents say "we don't like the immigration bill," they don't vote for it. That's what they are elected to do.

I don't know. Ask Hillary. And John Edwards.

Who both voted for the war 'before voting against it.'

They all know it's wrong to be there but feel the need to support their party...
