I don't know if giving back is the right description but what I do is mentor start up companies.
I have a close relationship with my local bank. When they have somebody opening an account for a new business, they call me and ask if I would be willing to assist the entrepreneur with my experience.
Most times I decline, but there are a few that show the spark of intelligence and, most importantly, enthusiasm that it takes to make it.
Those, I help avoid the pitfalls and problems I went through when I started my own company.
So am I giving back? Truth be told, I get far more out of it than I put into it. The pride and satisfaction of seeing somebody go from a scared and nervous first timer and watching them grow is far more than I give.
