So by making some sort of joke about it you get to say what you really want without being vulnerable....

There's no way to get an accurate answer, but I'd be willing to bet more than 50% of "jokes" are true. "Just kidding" is a very popular "Plan B" for when something you say doesn't sit well with somebody.

I don't think that's true 50% of the time. Alot of times when I'm joking it's something that I really really don't mean (that what makes it funny). However, I do think it's true that drunk people always tell the truth (after a few beers the truth always seems to come out).

I sometimes think it is even more than that. There are alot of cruel people oout there who think by putting someone else down it makes them a bigger person. To me at least in my eyes they are so very much smaller because of it.
