I have a knee injury for about three weeks now. And it all started when I slid into second base in a softball game. The next day it was a little sore. And every day since that when I run and sometimes walk I feel some mild pain in my knee. I am 11 years old and very active. My parents say every day "Oh you'll be fine" or "It'll fell better tommrow" and it never does. We have treid to ice it, heat it, elevate it. It still hurts when I run. And they make me play softball on it. It gets me mad.
Anyway my three questions are:
1. Do you have any idea what could be wrong with my knee
2. What should I do (should I wrap it something or what)
3. Thanks for the help!!!!

Please go to the school nurse or your doctor. Knee injuries that are not treated properly can cause you issues for the rest of your life.

It sounds like you have done damage to your knee. It may heal properly with proper care. Normally this means placing ice on it, keeping it elevated and also abstaining from sports or heavy physical activity for a while. If you hurt, then you need to stop doing whatever you are doing. Pain is your body's way of telling you to take it easy.

A knee brace or a wrap may help, especially if movement in general hurts.

Have you noticed that your other knee is tired or sore? Sometimes the body shifts weight to the less injured side. This is a definite signal that something is wrong with the hurt side.

11 years old is far to young to cause permanent damage due to an injury not being properly cared for. Good luck and take care!

First of all this should not be in baseball. Yes you did injure your knee playing softball, but you should have asked it in medical or some other area.

1. sounds like possible a torn ligament. If it is swollen about the size of a softball it is a torn ligament.
2. No, don't wrap it; but put it in a knee brace, one that does not allow your knee to bend or really move. Go see your doctor or a sports doctor.
3. I know this from experience as I did not tear, but destroyed the ACL in my left knee. It was so bad that the Dr. had to take a piece from another ligament to repair the ACL. . 4.Unfortunately since the ACL can't really be seen trough an x-ray the only other way to have it checked is arthoscopicly.
5. Good Luck to you.

The injury could be anything especially in someone your age. Your parents need to grow up and get you to an orthopedic (NOT pediatric) specialist for a full exam of the injured knee. He/she will recommend next course of action ( physical therapy, MRI, etc.)

I would agree that you should go see a doctor and let them check it out because if it's something serious or needs to be treated and you don't, it could mess up your sports career. You can buy knee braces to, but get a doctors opinion.

Son, take the advice from Dyan above. Your body is telling you that something is wrong inside your knee. You need to have a medical professional examine it. If your parents won't listen to you, see the school nurse and tell him/her that your parents won't take you to a doctor.

I think you should put this in the health section. Your chances of finding an answer in the baseball section is very slim.

Just see a doctor.

Trust me on this one, GO SEE A DOCTOR. You don't want to take any chances of doing more damage at your young age.
