I have been best mates with someone for 35yrs he has never been to good with birthdays but this year we were both 40 (our birthday is only 2 weeks apart) I always make sure he gets a card etc and because he was 40 this year I made sure he had a nice card / present, 2 weeks later I was 40 did not even get a text to say happy birthday, no card, phone call nothing. 1 week later I get a call asking if he could borrow my sat nav and when was my birthday again!!!! We have been mates since school and he does forget things but I just think because we were both 40 this year he would have tried a bit more, now I just cannot let it go am I taking it to much to heart?

With age, a lot of people lose interest in special occasions that once use to be a big deal.
My hubby is like that now (never use to be).
He forgets birthdays, anniv, and even forgot to get me a Christmas present one year. He loves me to pieces, I know that. It's just that these things are not important to him anymore. Not just for me but for himself as well. If he didn't get a b'day card or gift, he wouldn't care less. It's just not a big deal to him.
People change and life has a way of taking the "special" out of "special occasions" for some people.

Some people are just not good with dates - I married one and I am one.

Neither of us know when our wedding anniversary is - our daughter has to call us every year and remind us. However, I did know it was in March (or was pretty sure)

I honestly don't think he meant to forget you - he just isn't into it.

If it bothers you, then don't get him anything anymore and call it a day.

if oyu know he has atendancy to forget things like that - and you dont ... y are you judging him by your standards? judge him by his - has he broken em? did you make it clear to him how import turnin 40 was to you? (like once a week for about 6 weeks commin up to it, lol) and if that hurts you like that - jus wonderin, do you h0ld feelins for him that you aint tellin him? (might be an idea to tell him - but then I dunno dunno you both)

dont take it to heart - if he remebered every year and then not then yea take it to heart - he dont tho does he. chill hes still prob a good mate yea? worth losing over somethin little like that (well dates an ties are too him - they prob jus dont make a straight line his head, an you'll be askin way too much form him if do ask that of him)

Im like it too - I often end up gettin people cards like 2 months early, walkin in an goin happy birthday! to gettin odd looks .. guess how many times I do that before I give up ...

Maybe the age is catching up with him or maybe he really did have a brain fart.. Dont take it to heart. ask him if he forgot and just remind him. He will feel bad and make it up 2 u im sure.

Yes, you have to let go.
Some people do get better with age, others only get worse.
Besides you can see that it was not malicious!
So, do let go, and accept that he wasn't the lucky one to get wiser with age.
Your friendship is worth better than a card, is it not?

Please don't take it to heart. This guy sound like me and I really don't mean it personally. I am just extremely bad at remembering things like this. My mates go mad but they all make allowances for me! Sorry - I apologise for him. I know I am the same!
