The most common practice is to set the text for any links to your e-mail to not give your address. Have them say "Click here to e-mail" rather then "yoursite@yourhost.com". This means they have to put effort into getting the address. Also list the address elsewhere as "yoursite(at)yourhost.com" rather then using the @ sign. Then automatic robots can not find the address.

Two options:
1) Set up a contact form for users to fill in and send to you.
2) Use this little program. It creates a matrix in the HTML code that only renders the full email addres on the client machine. Spiders will never, EVER pick up on this email address - it is impossible.

Break up the address with something like brackets and text, or insert additional characters into it. Like this ...
secretaddress mymadeupdomain com, or
secretREMOVETHISaddress @ mymadeupdomain.com
Spaces around @ added to keep Yahoo from mangling the address.
