We are planning a trip to Disneyland, and the hotel we are staying at asked us if we wanted insurance. It was incase we had an accident or something (arm cut off on a ride, had to take an ambulance, etc.) Isn't the park liable? Is this just another way for them to get money?

The insurance they were most likely talking about is in case you have an accident before you leave for your trip. It would allow you to get your money back if you couldn't go on the trip.

I think accident insurance for a theme park is a resort's idea of a "scam". They make it sound like you'll need, when actually it's not necessary, and is actually another expense to add on to a vacation that you don't need.

Most amusement parks implore the "ride at your own risk" rule, whereas, you are not being forced to ride the rides, but rather, you are riding them on your own free will and are willing to risk your life.

Now, are the parks liable if something happens to you? To some small degree. If you are on a ride, but are ignoring the posted rules, not seated properly (standing when you should be seated, kneeling when you should be seated), they are not responsible if something happens to you. HOWEVER, in the case of the young girl in Kentucky who lost her feet at Six Flags while riding the Superman Tower, the park should be help responsible, even if they did a ride inspection and the ride passed.

Parks may not ALWAYS be liable, only if negligent in not properly checking all rides to ensure their safety. Most, if not all, Disney rides are computer operated and monitored. So if there may be an impending disaster, the purpose of the high tech technolgy, is to prevent it.

Concider contacting your regular life insurance company and inquire about additional travel/accident insurance. You may find it less expensive through them.

Otherwise, accidental insurance is a waste of money, if you ask me....you HAVE TO DIE by an accident to get the proceeds.

never heard of it .. however if you got hurt by ur own doing I dont see how the park is liable for that .. u trip over ur own feet and hurt urself .. if it is a ride - I say hell ya they liable .. as long as its not stated u should keep ur hand inside and u stick them out getting them cut off.. ur fault for sure ..
