Parents have been around long enough to figure out if their kids are having sex, having gay sex, smoking, using drugs, or abusing alcohol.
Kids always think their parents are dumb and they can get away with anything. That hubris is what gets them caught most of the time.
What they don't realize is that parents were young once, and they are doing nothing different than their parents did a generation ago.

It's as true as parents being able to know what each other is thinking. If they have kept in tune with their kids and had an open relationship with them it is very possible. Parents have a way of knowing changes in their kids. If they have had anything to do with their kids' lives it's real easy to tell.

One of the parents was probally gay but decided to get married and have children instead so there would be a 50 % chance that the child would be gay.

From the stories I've heard, its relatively common. Moms especially: usually mothers are a bit more in tune with the way their kid is feeling (I'm generalizing here, but I think its true).
However, if you are coming out to your parents, never assume anything. They may have no idea.

I was looking at some of my childhood pictures for my high school yearbook. I'm closeted and those pictures would throw my out of the closet! I looked so girly in almost all of them. It was kinda embarrassing. Oh well, those are now for my eyes only.

Sometimes. Your parents are with you from day 1 (hopefully), so they'll usually be able to spot out any "differences" from a young age.
When I came out to my mom she said "I always had a feeling; a mother's intuition that you were different (than other boys)."

Most of the time it is i think. It's just that they want to wait until their kid is sure of who they are sexually and they want them to choose the right moment to admit to them being Gay/Lesbian or any other "group".

When my daughter asked for an Indigo Girls cd and a set of golf clubs I knew she was a lesbo.
