Every car is differnt ... it is a function of the amount of gas that is in the car. I can go about 20-40 miles while my light is on so it is your last gallon to a gallon and a half of gas left in your car.

Most of the low gasoline lights come on when the remaining fuel supply is about 10% of capacity which means between one a two gallons.

On a ten gallon tank you'd be running on about one gallon of fuel when this light comes on. A twenty gallon tank, two gallons. If you are on the Interstate you will need to get off and fuel up before you run too low and the fuel pressure drops and the engine stalls when the fuel pump starts sucking air.

For the most part, this means most cars will run out of gas between 10 and 50 miles depending on whether you are driving a gas hog or a hybrid that gets (alledgedly) 50-60 miles per gallon.

Good Luck!

Every car is different.

Too find out, fill your tank up as soon as the low fuel light comes on. Check the owner's manual for the capacity of your fuel tank. The difference is how much gas you have left in your tank when the low fuel light comes on.

Next step is to calculate your fuel mileage, which can be done any time you fill your tank. Fill your tank and note the mileage. Next time you fill up, note the mileage and the number of gallons it takes to fill your tank. Divide the difference between the mileages by the number of gallons you put in your tank and you have your fuel mileage.

Multiply the fuel mileage by the number of gallons left in the tank when the low fuel light comes on and you know ROUGHLY how much further you can go before running out of gas.

I'd leave a safety margin if possible, though. I still remember my younger days when I ran out of gas while waiting in the bank drive-through to cash my paycheck and having to push my car through the rest of the bank teller line. My Friday theme song was "Low Rider".

Modern cars have a red light that shows when gas is very low.
When that happen you have (normally) one gallon or just about four liters left in the tank.
Assuming your car can do (see your manual) thirty miles to the gallon (for the sake of argument) you have thirty miles to go when the light come on ,after that, conk!
