A little brief history: When our civil war started -in 75 - our then government found it a good idea to ask our neighbours the Syrians to come in and help end the violence.
Until last year and although the war ended some 17 years ago, they stayed on: occupying the land, oppressing the people, looting and milking us economically and doing the undo-able to anyone who dared raise a voice.
Here in Australia, I am surrounded by people with haunting stories about how they were treated by our brothers and the circumstances under which they had to flee their own country.
So if we are a little resentful of anything that bears the name Syria, please understand.
Of course, and I said that in my answer, we need to bear in mind that the Syrian people are just as ruthlessly treated by their regime and we should distinguish between government and people and feel sorry for them because at least we succeeded in regaining our freedom.

It's very nice that you have chosen to point this out ...yes , we must distinguish between the actions of a government & the everyday people just trying to get on with their lives .
We should try to treat all with respect , love , fairness & humour where appropriate. It is the only way to build bridges rather than distrust which seems to be so prevelant at the moment.

hi Tuty
that's how the people are...if one Muslim made something bad in the name of Islam...then we are all terrorist...and if one Syrian made a mistake then all Syrians are bad.
people will never change...love and peace would never exist if ppl stay like that.

Poor girl. They devoured her like a pack of wolves.
I personally distinguish between Syrian people and the Syrian government. It's ironic how those who bash Syrian citizens, are the same ones who tolerate Israeli citizens. () for instance. Double standards?
Syrian people (and Israeli people alike) are welcome on our category, despite the haters.

I know my opinion means very little.
I am an American, and I believe that every human being on this planet is equal. We have all grown up in completely different circumstances and have grown to create our own beliefs and prejudices, BUT I think it is time for us all to embrace one another as family and not enemies. The time for war is past.

i answered her question
and i welcomed her to the lebanese section
i found that lots and lots of the answers were mean.
and i agree with you that we shouldn't hate the whole because of the few.
and why to be so agressive...she came and posted her question in our section...so lets just be friendly...just try you guys
plus- my answer to her question was rated as a bad one...why ??? because i'm a lebanese girl and welcomed her to our section...hey imagine u were that girl...
just welcoming her would change whatever thought she had on her mind concerning us lebanese.
good luck anyways
