I'd rather suggest you read books about careers and how you can make good savings and a very delightful retirement.

read: books like: Rich Dad Poor Dad, guide to investment, good to great. etc.

You are very lucky to know this especially if you start applying to your life what the book suggests.

Of course, at your age these books may seem boring but you'll be more prepared in life than any other young adult. You may cram your lists with good fiction or non fiction books. its all up to you but I hope that you'd be able to have these books on your list.

Oh! I almost forgot; also, you might want to put in you list some good books about religions, and i mean not just one religion but other religion that interests you or you find curiouse or scared or fascinated about.

try google to find great books.

While there are a lot of 'classics' most of the writing is too old fashioned to really engage a young persons attention. I've picked up books that entranced me when I was younger and the writing just leaves me cold now. If you're trying to get your young adult to read you need to find what engages his/her interest. A lot depends on the YA's maturity too.

When my oldest son was 12 I couldn't get him to read a book if his life depended on it then I gave him Piers Anthony's "A Spell for Chameleon" the first book in the Xanth novel series. He went on to read the entire series which eventually saved me money because he was buying them himself. It lead him to read other authors in the genre too.

My niece, 14,loved a book I got her called "Boys That Bite" by Mari Mancusi. It has a companion book called "Stake That!" Both are very funny with a little seriousness on the side and yes - they deal with vampires. She also liked "Prom Nights From Hell" an anthology by Meg Cabot, Stephenie Meyer, Kim Harrison, Lauren Myracle, and Michele Jaffe. It's just good, scary fun.

For both girls and boys, try "Maximum Ride" by James Patterson. James Patterson is also known for his detective series featuring Alex Cross in crime thrillers, like "Along Came a Spider" and "Kiss the Girls" Which my daughter read when she was 14.
