BTW, I work in an environment where it will not affect ANYBODY if I take a day off, I have an assistantto cover me. Also, it's not that I don't want to tell her I just feel like my personal life is my personal life and work is work. I dont want her to know anything about me. It is for my wedding... just not my wedding day..:) get it.. ok thanks in advance!

If you are entitled to paid time off, then it's none of her business. If you do not get any paid time off and you are asking for unpaid leave, then yes, she's entitled to know why.

Yes, If you have personal days, you can say-personal, medical, funeral, wedding-whatever.
If you don't get personal days off, you are asking for a favor. She needs to know if your need weighs as heavily as the needs of the job she has to do. She has a perfect right to ask you to give a few days notice, so she can cover your job.
Maybe you are one of those people who has a different relative die every week, or are always giving lame excuses for being late or not being able to finish your work.
Maybe you need to work toward establishing a trusting relationship there. Ask her what you can do.
Or maybe she's just an idiot.
I'd take my VACATION to get married and stay in bed a week!

that is not sensible yet regrettably that is not uncommon or unlawful the two. Like Kreeos suggested, your boss is being a prick. He needs you to correctly known that he's in value and is extra useful than the worker guidance manual. My spouse worked (key word, worked) for a company in basic terms like this and that they made the comparable varieties of unreasonable calls for. My advice would be to respond with the comparable reason you already gave to your different supervisors (you weren't feeling properly adequate to paintings) and pass away it at that. If he comes at you back with the well-being care professional be conscious request, in basic terms tell him you probably did not pass to the well-being care professional and have not something to grant him. Reiterate that your unwell day became authorized via 2 different supervisors past to time and you weren't informed to pass to a physician. you should print and carry onto copies of the e-mails from the supervisors declaring which you have been cleared to take the time without work besides as your replica of the worker guidance manual so as that if via some possibility they have been to fire you (which I doubt very notably), you may record an unemployment declare and have those information and the guidance manual waiting to grant if the organization tries to dispute your declare. not attempting to make you paranoid in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it truly is frequently extra effective to be a splash over-arranged than decrease than-arranged. It won't get you your interest back regrettably, yet unemployment is a lot funner once you're being paid!

You might want to tell her. Except in some exceptions in the justice system, it's legal for anybody to ask any questions they want, and whether or not you answer is up to you. Since most employment is "at will", if you decide not to answer, it could mean your job -- although that would be pretty harsh.

UPDATE: If you want to keep your personal life private, then just make up a lie. There's certainly no harm in that.

It's definitely legal, unless you have it in your contract otherwise.

Your boss has no obligation to give you time off for anything. Most bosses are human and would for something like that.

Just lie like everyone else. And yes they certainly can ask!

You don't have to answer but you also must remember , your boss doesn't have to give you the day off.

I don't believe it's a matter of legality, but she doesn't have to give you the day off. You could say it's a personal matter, but she still doesn't have to let you have it off, especially if it's a burden for others.

What's the big deal. Common courtesy. It's not like you are having a medical proceedure done; and most bosses ask.

Not mandatory at all. You can take off anytime you want. Just be ready to clean out your desk when you get back. Oh yeah. You might want to freshen up that resume too. Me thinks you'll need another job soon.
