check if u have a function key to increase brightness ... check display properties and power settings ... if everything is maxed the bulb may be popped ...

You know that new laptop you have been drooling over? It is time to buy it. Usually when the backlight goes out on a display it requires the replacing of the entire display unit. Cost is usually around $300 for the part, plus 2-4 hours of labor. Usually it makes more sense to replace the laptop then to put that much money into an old laptop.

However, the old laptop can still used with an external monitor (like it was a desktop), or added to a network and used as storage for extra music, vids, etc. So you can still get some use out of it.

But not as your primary laptop. So hopefully you have been saving your pennies....

It's called the back light, not the screen light. And it doesn't mean your monitor isn't working, it just means the backlight isn't.

The backlight is what makes your screen bright. That's why you can still see the images, just very faint and dark.
