Proper diet is a key to a healthy fish and good health is key to good spawning. Feed him well on a variety of foods and you should see excellent breeding results.

-Healthy environment
-Larger ratio of females (he should have a minimum of 2 anyway but everyone will be happier if there are a lot more females to the one male)
-Housekeeping - frequent water changes vacuuming the gravel bed properly. A clean tank is a more fertile tank.
-Nutrition - a variety of foods, not just the same old flake. Get a high quality flake as the base but mix a bit of spirulina and a bit of frozen bloodworm in alternatively every so often.
- Lot's a hiding places to reduce stress in the tank

1. Keep them away from the females for a couple of weeks.
2. Feed them live food and get them to prime form.
3. Do your water changes regularly.

Then reintroduce them (males and females) into a common tank and you should have them breeding without a problem.
