After letting Michigan's deficit balloon to $802 million, you would think that the state's lawmakers had finally done their worst. Well, think again. In one of its most irresponsible and incompetent acts yet, the state legislature slashed $179 million of that deficit on Friday by either postponing or cutting funding to state universities and community colleges. Quite literally, it borrowed from Michigan's future.

I have lived in Michigan for the last 14 years and I have never had a problem finding work.
Having worked in the auto field for over 16 years and knowing how to customize and custom paint.
It is now next to impossible for me to find a job. I have been out of work for 14 months and I am about to leave the State like many others have already done.
As a EX-UAW worker, now out of work again due to Granholm, is anyone else sick of her ??????

I'm a liberal, and even I think she's done a cruddy job. Michigan just seems to be an enigma. I tend to vote Democrat and I tend to hate Republicans, but Engler was one of the best governors in the country, and Granholm has blown chunks.

Glad I moved.... oh, wait. I live in Florida now. Our entire state government is retarded. Suck.

I have lived here for 40 years and the first thing you learn here is to have more than one skill and DO NOT count on the Auto industry!! IT is CYCLICAL.
The change we need is to get rid of dems and repubs who even remotely support anything Engler EVER did and start over. This was a great state until the christian demagogues took over in the early part of 20th century and took Michigan dry in 1913!! MY grandmother loved as her husband made a lot of money bringing booze across the detroit river..in fact the money they made from prohibition got them thru the depression!! in one piece...

My dear friend. I too feel your grief over the Michigan economy. But look back and see that this problem started way before Granholm....try Engler.

I truly hope Michigan can bounce back!

It isn;t granholm's fault that the state didn't diversify, but she has done more to bring NON auto jobs here, to try and diversify, As afr as cutting funding to colleges, the congress wouldn;'t give in on their tax cuts to businesses, and they won;t raise taxes. So there is no money, and EVERYTHING got cut. Blame her if you want, but that is just ridiculous. If you have been here as long as you say you have, i would think you had plenty of criticism for her predecessor who left her worse off than she is now.
