I prefer to read paperback copies because they are easier to fold and such. I just buy the hardbacks because they look nice on my book shelf, lol. I am just curious why they wait so long after a book is released to release it in paperback?

Its totally up to two aspects:

1. Sales of the hardcover release

2. Publisher's discretion

If the sales of a book in hardcover were BAD, it will take longer. (Here's the fun part) If the sales of a book in hardcover were GOOD, it will take even longer. (Hardcover prices are usually over $20 while a paperback is around $8...they want to keep making more money). . . Good example, The DaVinci Code took over 5 years to come out in paperback because people kept buying the more expensive hardcover.

Usually in a contract the author surrenders this to the publisher's discretion, so if sales are taken completely out of the agenda, it's really up to the CEO of the company who's releasing it.

Welcome to the publishing world!

When a hardcover comes out its value is quite higher than the paperback version. The publisher will release several editions of the hardcover in an effort to make as much money prior to releasing the paperback.

Publishers wait to release a paperback until everybody who was thinking about buying the far-more-expensive hardcover edition has done so. They make more profit on each hardcover sale. In paperbacks, the profits are smaller and the volume makes up for it.

I think it depends on the publisher and on the book and its sales, but it tends to average about a year between hardback and paperback release.

possibly approximately 4-8 months it relies upon how generic the e book is expected to be for instance the lemony snicket books have merely merely been made obtainable in paperback a clean e book may be some million-2 months in case you like all of it to examine merely purchase it in hardback now and in paperback later
