Fritz Kreisler had done enough with the violin to study theory under Anton Bruckner at Vienna Conservatory when he was 7, and was one of Delibes' students when he was 12.
Of course, Fritz Kreisler is not a typical musician =)

I was three, and then, a real piano at 6. Fine. excellent. Lucky kid!
