I think it's clear that he doesn't have the support. Iraq just killed him as a candidate. That being said, I think he has been a profile in courage. He stuck with what he believed in - put more troops in there and don't come out till you win. I tip my hat to him - some things are more important than being elected President.

McCain would be the best president by far of anyone running, but he's not a good candidate. Political saavy counts for more than integrity unfortunately.

McCain is a soundly beaten candidate for sure. This race seemed to badly tire out McCain both mentally/physically. Most agree that the McCain of today is just a shell of his former self. The highly respected AND decorated war hero is going out flat on his back with an eight count, this is truly sad. McCain is seventy yrs old & again, many doubt that he is credible, or at best sound of judgement. With his squandering of 20 million dollars in the first quarter of the race, bungled view point on immigration/amnesty & unpopular view point on the Iraqi situation McCain is finished for sure. Worse, his chance as an Arizona representative has surly suffered. The career of John McCain has certainly been a colorful one tho in many repects. Unfortunately, like former president Carter found out, being carried out of the political ring on a stretcher is the ultimate form of humiliation/defeat.

all the things that McCain did and said really set him on the brink does he have what it takes to make a comeback no, him and Rudy are not at all Strong candidates there good no question about that but all republicans need to layoff on Reagan and start talking about today and what leadership we need that best fits today's America. in republican eyes Reagan was a good man and how well he conducted him self as president but i don't want to hear that from them i want to hear how they will conduct them selves and really what kind of president they will be. McCain is a straight forward man who does express what is on his mind he has a lot of leadership qualities but lacks the presidential influences, like how to get his points to stick to American voters.

Not a chance. His co-sponsoring of the Amnesty Bill seriuosly did him in, and he always had a problem of apealing to the base, but not moderate on the War, and to moderates, but not the base, on his voting record, since he often forged compromises (good ones, often, unlike Amnesty) durring his years in the Senate.

Thus he was never quite as strong a contender as he might have been. The real nail in his coffin though had nothing to do with public opinion: he simplly failed, from the beginning, to bring in nearly as much special-interest money as the other Rep front runners, and, in the final analysis, though gobs of campaign contributions don't gaurantee you victory, lack of them gaurantees defeat...

And, you're right. McCain, virulently as I disagree with him on a couple of issues, is a man of integrity, and might have made a good president. Integrity don't get you elected in the 21st century, though.

No.

He never had a chance, and now that lack of chance is even more nonexistent than it was before. You just can't trust him in any sense. While his views hypocritically shift on a constant basis, how you could distill any trust in him as president?

He is a great American. He will not win the election. His positions on certain issues doomed him from the start really, it just took some time for the people to look at his platform for them to figure that out.

He is better than Rudy, but it doesn't look like he has a shot as of now. Ron Paul passed him in cash on hands and his support continues to grow exponentially.
