Even if a stressful job pays well and offers good benefits--why not get a resume out there? There are less stressful jobs that offer similar salaries & benefits.

This does NOT apply to those who can retire in a couple of years--and stay for that reason alone.

What planet do you come from? Sorry...but some cities and towns just don't have a great job market....and jobs with less stress are usually LOW paying ones. Move you may say? For me, aging parents and children keep me from moving away....not an option. Cost of living is HIGH...I need my good paying/good benefits job...I could not make it on less...I have sent MANY resume's out....and I have found out one important thing...I need to KEEP the job I have!
That's why....

Because change is difficult and they probably wonder if the next job could even be worse than the one they are in. At least at the current job, they know what to expect. Plus some people thrive on being stressed out, it makes them feel important.

High stress jobs are not necessarily a bad thing. High stress jobs cause me to work harder and better. I may be stressed at work but as soon as I leave for home, I unwind on the ride home, if a very stressful day my husband will help me to unwind. So it's not as if I carry this stress away from work. Stress isn't bad if you can handle it in a healthy way, it can even be rewarding.

It's probally fear of the unknown. Although you are unhappy with the job, you know the ends and outs and you would have to learn everything over again in a new position.

There paralyzed with indecision, fear of the unknown. A known he$$ being better then a unknown one.

Laziness, hating interviews, all of it is in the mix.
