Tallahassee was established as the capitol of Florida because it was between Pensacola and St. Augustine. The distance from Pensacola to Tallahassee is 190 miles. The distance from Tallahassee to St. Augustine can be represented as (5x + 5) miles. The distance from Pensacola to St. Augustine can be represented as (9x + 35) miles. No. This is how you set it up to find x:

9x+35=5x+5+190

9x+35=5x+195
-5x.......-5x

4x+35=195
.....-35....-35

4x=160
/4....../4 (divided by 4)

x=40

Then, you solve the equation 5x+5 like this, substituting 40 for x:

5(40)+5=?
200+5= 205

Since the distance from Tallahassee to St. Augustine(205 miles) is not equal to the distance from Pensacola to Tallahassee(190 miles), Tallahassee cannot be the midpoint.

It can be if x= 25. If it is the halfpoint, the distance of Pensacola to St. Augustine would be 10x +10.
Set this equal to 9x +35, you get that result. If I remember, it is more than 130 miles from Tallahassee to Pensacola, having driven it once.
