I've seen many people attempt to down-play the very real threat from Radical Islamists . They say everything from "Oh it's only grandstanding by politicians" . . . . . . all the way to the other side of the coin when people say " I'm ready and we have arms to protect our family " . . . . . Well , both are wrong and I'll address the 'naysaying grandstanders' first .
Naysayers -- Would you tell your family and your neighbors that it's only 'grandstanding' ? And if so , then : Who's the fool if / when it does happen ? Who will people call a jerk for misleading them like that ? And more importantly : What will you say to your family and neighbors if something does happen ? Sorry ? Ya think 'sorry' is gonna help ?
Now the folks who say they're armed and safe : Oh really ? So you think Terrorists will hang around long enough for you to shoot them ? Did you forget that they also blow-up themselves ? And what if it happens at a mall , or elsewhere ? Do you have your gun with you there ?

CONTINUED --- I'm less disturbed by the folks who say they are armed . At least those folks recognize the danger that we face .
But the folks who let their inner hatred block rational cognizant thought are a danger to us all .
Denying the threat means you're not with the rest of us . You're not looking out for your neighbor , let alone you're own family . Shame on you . Now WAKE UP and join the rest of us as AMERICANS. .. if you even dare call yourself that anymore .
Thank you .

For You Folks Who Say You've NEVER Seen or Heard Anyone Deny The Threat --- You make me laugh and get sick at the same time . This post has some who deny the real threat , but just look at "Gut Feeling " Part 1 or 2 . And just look at any other question on here that has to do with terrorism . You're either lying or monumentally blind and uninformed . Please don't stay that way !!

Barb - I'm a veteran who fears nothing . There's a big difference between fear and readiness . . . and for some , complacency . Ignoring the threat is dangerous . Carrying on normal life is good , but with a few adjustments . Being watchful and wary are very good for the public at large and for all of us . If people simply became more observant..... ya see , people don't fully understand the true meaning of observant . As a former law enforcement officer , I can tell you that other law enforcement officers know that we are far more observant than civilians . Civilians NEED to focus more . It's for the good of all .

This build up has been going on for awhile. I doubt the story about al-qaida being up to pre 9/11 strength, highly doubtful, but they may certainly be ready to strike.
The warnings are Syria warned some people in Lebanon to get out, the top US security people were scheduled to meet this AM.
That is certainly enough warning for me, fortunately we are not on one of the hitlist cities, but still we are considering skipping events for awhile where large amounts of people gather. Want to call me paranoid, well go ahead but if I am correct and you are wrong, you will be yelling from a spot with a lot of dirt on your face and mine will be facing the sunshine.
My hope is that the idiots in congress will get over their hate bush thing, yea I know wishful thinking, and start doing the right thing for national security. The ACLU needs to be shut down and the courts and public opinion need to stay away from Gitmo. When at war you need to do things you would not normally do in a civilized society, like kill or be killed, my choice is the former if you please.
For the useful idiots, terrorism is a real threat, just ask the surviving families from the 9/11 victims, to dismiss it or try to deny it is just plain stupid. Go ahead and hate one man if you want but do not get in the way of the remainder of Americans who want to be safe from this.

People are tired of the ROYGBIV threat level thing. Do I think they're a threat? Oh yes? I think they're so much of a threat that I've been after my congressman to shut down and police the hundreds of miles of open border between us and Mexico where people can waltz across uncontested. If Chertoff doesn't see what most people would call our soft underbelly being exposed as a problem then why should I jump through hoops because he has a gut feeling. For all I know, it could be gas from the Chow Fun he ate last night. I want to yell, "Hey Erasurehead! Glad to see your on top of things, ya schmuck!" but it makes no sense to do that since he's in DC and I'm 3000 miles away.

Earnest, I still refuse to live my life in fear of an unknown evil!I I do agree that an attack is a given. No 'grandstanding' here. I will not arm myself, no guns, no way. I agree that to do so will do no good! I will continue my life by making a tiny bit of difference one day at a time! If the Lord decides this is my last day on earth I will go with no regrets! If the Lord decides I have time left I refuse to let the fear of a Radical Islamists' attack dominate my future!
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15).

Earnest, I read a bunch of the answers you got with chagrin. The very same ones that are busy trying to convince YOU that the Bush Administration is ONLY trying to scare you are exactly the very same ones that ARE trying to scare you with Global Warming!!!!
Al Gore has a scare tactic which cannot be proven right or wrong, but will happen sometime in the distant future, maybe. But he and the other Lefties want to scare you so bad that you will destroy your economy, all the while denying that OBL and company's threat to you is miniscual.
Maybe that is why they think Bush is lying, because that is what THEY would do.

Just to be clear, I've never once said these Islamic radicals are grandstanding. It is very fortunate for us that most of them hail from third world countries, and resources are limited. I'm very much aware of their intentions. It is important for American citizens to be vigilant of things out of the ordinary. Not just to be wary of a terrorist attack, but sometimes our very own neighbors. Over the past decade or two, you hear about all kinds of "terrorist". Just to name a few: guys that kill their pregnant wives, mothers drowning er children, child rapist, cold blooded murders, you name it. You can not turn on your eleven pm news & not hear of at least a of couple heartless crimes. Dear, it's not just the terrorists. Thank God we're able to keep Islamic Radicals from acheiving their goals. You've depressed me. I'm goint to bed........good night.

The threat of terrorism is real. The likelihood of it happening to any individual is probably (no one knows for sure) less than that of a car accident, a fall in the bathtub or any other type of violent crime occurring. Can anyone honestly say at this point that the government has not used the threat level to its advantage at some point? There are NO politics involved? Do you believe that what this administration is doing seriously protects you from international terrorism?
For most of the 20th century, the government of the US has used demons to manipulate the American people. The communists want to come and kill you and take away your religion. The Libyans are out to get you (remember Moamar Khadafi?). We have to invade Grenada to save democracy in the world. We have to fund the Contras to keep socialism off our hemisphere.
There is no doubt that all of these threats are real. The issues to be debated are the appropriate responses. If we give up our liberties and what we believe in for the sake of security, then we are not secure at all. This nation was founded on a belief that power rests with the people. The founding fathers were the first to wisely realize that there are certain natural laws of association between a government and its citizens. Do we want to continue to obey those natural laws or, out of fear, become a society of centralized power and limited liberties?

The terrorists attacked us in the 90's and we responded weakly, then came 911 and most of us woke up to the threat. And now because the appeasers want to ignore them we are at risk of having to battle the terrorists on our home front.

I'm sorry friend, but you're mistaken. The threat of terrorism is real, but severly overblown. As a small band of criminals, tactically incapable of warfare against a legitimate military- they rely on suprise attacks against civilians in an attempt to control the population through fear. By legitmizing them as an opponent, and grandstanding the threat, our government does the terrorists work for them. Our fear makes their tactics more effective. This is supposed to be the home of the brave, so butch up.
Besides, safety has only ever been illusory. Our own criminals are much more dangerous than these terrorists- it doesn't take a religious extremist to get you shot down in a mall. The best way to keep yourself safe in any situation is to pay attention to your surroundings. Don't rely on the government to keep you safe- they can't.

Since 9-11 I don't think I have heard one person say that radical Islamists are not a threat. As far as the other extreme goes, if people can't follow a religion responsibly, then lets usher them to their god.

You are right on target as usual. Surprisingly, the THC doesn't seem to cloud your judgment. Both mindsets you describe are "head in the sand" approaches. The smart mindset is to be vigilent at all times. If you see something that looks wrong, report it to the authorities.
