What she meant is:
You're close friends, you've known each other for 5 years, why on earth would you be scared to call a close friend? If you're good friends and you call her, and she's too busy to talk, she'll tell you so, and you'll understand that it's not because she's not your friend anymore, she's busy.
If you aren't sure about that, find a time when she's not busy and talk about it and you can probably resolve any issues that exist.

I really am confused why you said that? I mean if you have been friends with someone for that long, why is it that you still have reservations towards this friend? I mean not unless you do not really know this person that well or vice versa that made you react and say such a thing.
I mean, there maybe other reasons behind which prompted you to say such a thing, thus the unexpected reaction from your friend. I mean I would be if all of a sudden a close friend of mine suddenly blurts out something like that.
But at any rate, if you guys are really true friends at least, both of you can sort things out and see way past this stumbling block. You see, real friends are trully trusting and comfortable with each other to be able to express themselves clearly, in order that each be understood by the other. Its important to give each other the opportunity to be heard and be ready to accept faults and forgive if neccessary.

She's having a hard time believing after five years of friendship you'd be scared to call her. Are you scared because you are looking for something more than friendship? She thinks of you as a friend so she can't understand what the big deal is.

She meant that since you've known each other for 5 yrs and are close friends, it doesn't make sense that you are scared to call her. She sees no reason for that feeling.

And why would you be scared to call her? Probably her reply meant that she can't believe you would be afraid to call her. You can always ask her why she said that in thefirst place too, you know.

Because you said you were "scared" to call her. She thinks you're being rediculous and over dramatic.

well it is another way of saying dont be daft, "why the hell would you be afraid of calling her". true friends are for life. they tend to say things without fear of loosing the other cause thats how comfortable they can be.
