i want to be able to play battlefield 2142

im looking at this card here 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600 GTS

should i be able to run 2142 ok
or is there a better card out there i cant spend 300 dollars on a card my max would probably be 150 dollars

**Update** I have revised my comments to reflect the 8600GTS, I originally thought you were looking at the cheaper 8600GT.

If your budget goes that high, then forget about the 8600GTS- it's ok for its price point, but there are better cards out there. Just make sure the power supply in your XPS can handle them.

For around $200 the Radeon X1950XT is the best graphics card on the market- faster than the 8600GTS. The only drawbacks is no DX10 support. Reviewers have also complained that it's fairly loud when it comes to fan noise.

For $270 the 8800 GTS 320mb is much better- awesome card!!! That's the ideal choice, if you don't mind spending over $250.

If your budget is really $150 or less then yeah, the 8600GTS or 8600GT is probably your best bet. Just make sure you get a DDR3 version- there are slow DDR2 versions of the 8600GT out there, avoid those...

You can compare cards based on that game. They don't have the 8600 or the 8500 series cards listed on that graph yet, but you can view bench marks for them by doing a simple search on the site.

This card is good enough to run 2142 but better card in this range are also available.

yea thats a good card. its dx10 supported. u should be able to play 2142 easily on it.
