while flying the confederate flag?
ANY REAL LINCOLN REPUBLICAN WOULD HAVE SPOKEN OUT AGAINST IT
Political considerations color the divergent views of presidential candidates on whether the Confederate flag should be moved from the State House grounds. For Republicans competing in the Feb. 2, 2008, GOP primary, where white voters will hold sway, the flag is a state issue that the candidates are not eager to discuss. On the Democratic side, where half or more of the voters in the Jan. 29, 2008, primary will be black residents, candidates have no qualms about calling for the flag’s removal.

Most of the people that fly the confederate flag are Democrats. No Southern Democrat ever had a problem with that flag. And I wonder why Democrats take credit for FDR's actions in ww2 when the libs today would have been the first to run up the white flag after Dec 7th. And if you want to see real racism look at the way liberals treat any black person that has made anything of themselves. The only way you can be reconized as black by a Democrat, is to live on welfare, in public housing and have 4 or 5 children out of wedlock with a substance abuse problem. A seccessful black is considered a sellout.

The flag is a personal choice. If you are truly ignorant enough to think that it is a pure representation of slavery (as I am assuming you are doing since you are bringing race into the issue), then you have no right to ask this question. The Confederate Flag represents a culture. While slavery was in fact part of this culture, it was a small representation as to what was involved.
Slavery was wrong in all senses of the word; HOWEVER, the confederacy was about more than that. I would suggest that you educate yourself on the culture of the South instead of focusing so steadfast on another racial issue. (Not to mention that I doubt you know anyone who knew anyone who knew anyone who knew anyone who was a slave). Time to stop whining and move on. It is an issue that will never die because people like you will not let it even though you never had to experience an ounce of the pain of your ancestors.
Everyone will have their opinions about this issue and no one is going to give in so the vote will simply go to whoever has the majority. The debate does not do any good because everyone is too stubborn to understand anyone else's perspective because everyone is still too stuck on the racial aspect of the confederacy. Once you can get past that, let me know and maybe we can have a discussion.
And if you are so offended by a flag that does not represent what you so adamantly claim it does, then you should just leave the state. You have no knowledge of the truth or pain of slavery. Why do you let a flag bother you so much?

Oh please...1st of all you, well probably not you personally, but from wherever you cut and paste from, is generalizing and stereotyping voters. If you are honest with yourself wouldn't the most offending flag to former slaves be the one flown over our capital prior to any war wage for their freedoms. Democrats, Republicans, Whigs, Independents at one time were ALL for slavery. So if you want a symbol from our past to generate hate, why not use the American flag pre Civil War to demonstrate against. You know the one that was even flown when Vermont had slaves. Not a Confederate battle flag that don't mean squat.

The Republican Party is very diverse. Yeah, there are some neo-Confederate elements in the party thanks to the Dixiecrat invasion in the '60s and '70s, but there are also Republicans alive who have more in common with the GOP circa 1860 than do the Democrats. A quick glance at the Republican Party platforms of the 19th century and early 20th century would illustrate that the Democrats and the Republicans have not switched. The Republicans and Democrats have had some shifts in voting blocs, but the Democrats today have very little in common with the early GOP. The Republican Party isn't exactly upholding the early GOP, either, but they're a hell of a lot closer.

Actually, the states which fly the Confederate flag are all in the South, and were run primarily by Democrats -- although they have been voting Republican in presidential elections.
And, of course, Lincoln was the first Republican president.

Because neoconservatives are fascists, just like Lincoln.
Lincoln suspended the right to a speedy trial, held thousands of Americans without charges for years, closed down newspapers which disagreed with his policies (even those advocating a peaceful settlement of Lincoln's fascist War of Aggression), prohibited free elections in Maryland, killed 720,000 Americans and encouraged the rape, looting and destruction of those who remained alive.
Slavery was resolved every other country it was practiced in the 1800s peacefully. Lincoln's fascist war wasn't to end slavery (and he said as much). States had the right to secession under the Constitution but just like the current president, Lincoln had no use for the Constitution. Lincoln was a far greater fascist dictator than Bush can ever claim to be.
Abe Lincoln was the original fascist.
Also, the Confederate Flag stands for states rights and the brave men (white and black) who served to protect American freedom when a fascist dictator decided to destroy America. The flag represents the final time in American history where we lived in freedom. Lincoln's War of Northern Aggression turned America from Freedom to Fascism.

Just another example of GOP hypocrisy.
Gay-bashers who turn out to be gay.
Saying "Support the troops" while cutting their benefits and pay raises.
The list goes on and on.
