Why did the four liberal Supreme Court Justices vote to ALLOW schools to judge incoming students based on the COLOR of their skin?

http://www.edweek.org/ew/collections/scotus-race/index.html

Personally, I am proud that I voted for President Bush, because he appointed two new justices who have made a stand for racial EQUALITY, you know, the idea where all people are equal, and are not judged by the color of their skin.

Shame on those liberal judges, and shame on the Democratic candidates for President, who actually SUPPORTED the vote for racial discrimination.

Judge Roberts summed it up the best:

"The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race."

Joe M, as opposed to the liberal judges who want to implement discrimination in order to stop discrimination? Good thing Bush won...

You may be right. Anyone who wants laws to "help" people based on their race are assuming they're not smart enough to help themselves. I believe all races are equally intelligent and capable. Does that make me a racist?

By the way, I love Judge Roberts' quote that you provided.

When I heard the news stories about this, I thought of what it would feel like to be bused 90 minutes to another school, simply because my town was forced to fill a quota on how many students of another race must attend.

This is an incredibly stupid thing for me to even think about though, seeing as how my own town has a population that is about 99% Caucasian, and no other town nearby has a population of black, or Asian, or any other racial type anywhere near 15%.

I think what makes the most sense is for the people who can actually afford to go to a school where they will get a "better" education, outside of their hometown, should be paying for the privilege, and for the people who actually live in that town or city to go to their own local school.

But that's just my opinion...

Spend just one day in a predominantly minority, inner city public school. Not only will you see a lack of desks, books, air conditioning, decent plumbing, and TEACHERS, but you'll see a lack of awareness in many students about the world that exists outside of the ten-block radius from their homes. The relatively modest Seattle and Louisville integration projects in question during the recent high court ruling were very modest attempts to broaden the educational opportunities as well as the cultural horizons of a number of students from both sides of the tracks. I would hardly consider supporters of these programs to be racist.

Chief Justice Roberts (whom I vigorously supported BEFORE this ruling) makes an oblique and very omissive argument in the quote you provide, and he's way smart enough to know it. This new notion of being righteously "colorblind" presupposes that previous economic, social and academic discrimination have had no lasting effect on our current institutions and operations. Again, go to a school in Newark, or East St. Louis, or South Central LA. This is false, and no one who recognizes this falsehood is a racist.

Some may be, but I have seen more among Conservatives, such as the redrawing of voting districts (a.k.a gerrymandering) in Texas carried out by Tom DeLay and Governor Rick Perry, it watered down the voting of minority districts to stack the system in their favor, and how a minority district in Ohio was obstructed from voting in the 2004 Presidential election, same in 2000 in Florida; just to secure the Presidency of Republican George W. Bush, for the one in 2004 there is a class action suit going on. The GOP's hands are not clean, they have no qualms with racism when it helps them win.

Yes, lots of liberals are racists. They hate white people. Even some white liberals hate white people. They view whites as an evil, conquering race that is responsible for all the ills of the world. They don't want to study US history because there are so many white men that they have to study. They say; I don't want to study no evil, slave-owning white men!

As far as your comment about being proud of voting for W., let's try to be realistic, okay. He has been a disaster as president, although I do agree his Supreme Court picks were excellent.

Did you read the court case and how the judges determined the case or did you just read a cliff notes version and decide that the so called 'liberal' judges were racist? Please prove your own case with sufficient evidence that the judges who dissented from the majority rule are racist and prove that those who were of the majority rule not racist.

I dont believe they are on purpose. I think people on the far left are a shining example of the phrase "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." I think they truly mean well but rather than let society take its course they interfere and come up with rascist programs like Affermitive Action, diversity clauses etc.

come on you have to know that racism exists in every political party and along pretty much every facet of life. Did you read the case or did you just decide the justices are racist based on a non reliable source?

If they support affirmative action, then by definition they are. A State-sanctioned law which gives preferential treatment to a group of people based on skin color is racism.
