It has to be the computer-generated voices on the Weather Channel who control everything.....those voices giving the weather predictions do sound authoritative!

My view on GOD and weather is this. I am a christian, but I am also a scientist and sometimes I have to work the two together. The Bible said in Genesis that man was to work the ground all of his life because of his sin. So if you go by that belief, then weather is violent and unpredictable, for the most part, because we live in an imperfect world.

My view as a scientist and as a Christian is this: Take a tornado for example. Tornadoes can strike anywhere and at anytime. The fact is that there is more empty space in the United States than there are cities. When a tornado strikes a major city, and it has happened in the past with devestating results, it has happened because humans were in the way of the tornado. You can use the same argument concerning hurricanes.

I survived Hurricane Andrew on 08/24/1992 and its aftermath. My home was very heavily damaged with me in it. I don't care what the official number was, there were a lot more than seven people that died in that storm. And yes, there were about 100,000 displaced and homeless. Was I a victim of GOD's wrath? Get real! No hurricane had hit Miami or the Miami area in 28 years. In those 28 years, there was an explosion of growth. There was the potential - and eventual reality - for massive damage. Because of GOD? No, because we as human beings were in the way. I don't think that weather has anything to do with GOD helping or hurting others. When it comes to severe weather, we as humans are simply in the way.

I'm not going to argue the whole "God" thing, I'm simply going to make a small point; IF God exists and IF God created the world, then He/She/It obviously felt the need to create it with built-in conditions, such as those which drive ALL weather systems and patterns, that would self-perpetuate indefinitely.

"God" did NOT "send a hurricane to destroy New Orleans," nor did "God" destroy it for being a "wicked and evil place"; New Orleans was destroyed purely due to human stupidity...the kind of stupidity that leads to building a large metropolitan area below sea level in an area well-known for such destructive weather patterns.

The Mayan people had a god they called "Hurukan," whom they felt was the force behind these mighty storms, storms which we STILL call "hurricanes." Such storms have plagued the Gulf of Mexico, and many other tropical, semi- and sub-tropical areas on this world, for many long ages before the first humans arrived, however they got here.

That human beings settled this area and built a city that lies largely below sea level, in spite of knowing all too well the nature of these fierce storms which lash the area from time to time, is proof positive that the destruction of New Orleans had nothing whatsoever to do with "God" and everything to do with sheer human stupidity, nothing else. The destruction of New Orleans was as inevitable as "death and taxes," it's just that simple.

Thus as you can see, "God" does NOT "control the weather." IF He/She/It truly exists at all, and is not merely the product of our species' overly-vivid and often overworked imagination, then this "God" made all manner of weather systems and patterns possible in the process of creating this world and solar system, and many other worlds and solar systems as well.

To believe anything else is to close one's mind completely to how this world (and the greater universe around it, of which it is the smallest part) really works, taking shelter in blissfull ignorance and seeking refuge in the arms of primitive superstition, when we really ought to have the courage to use the brains and talents we have been so abundantly blessed with, whether or not they were given to us by "God."

There is no God. Obviously if there was then all those people starving to death in Africa would have food. If there was a God there would be rain when humans crops needed rain. If there was truly a loving, kind, peaceful God we would not be at War right now. Why do you refer to God by "his"? Maybe God is a she or an it.

God does not control the weather. Heat from the sun controls the weather in conjunction with the Coriolis effect which drives prevailing wind directions.

Mother nature is the one controlling the weather.

Weather cannot be "controlled".

There is, however, a **SCIENCE** called "meteorology" that explains a lot of weather phenomena.

But I don't think it's taught at Oral Roberts University.

the oceans and deserts along with the atmosphere control our weather, but every time they send a rocket ship up it messes our weather up.

If you believe that he does, then he must be the murderer of the humanity. How many people die per year because of natural disasters? Wake up people, this is 21th century.
