I have 2 fish that just live in a log at the bottom of the tank, they dont come out much. So my question is how many fancy tailed goldfish can i get. I got two yesturday cause i was told to get only two but they are really small and it seems like i could get more. I was thinking one or two more, is that too many??
In a nutshell... how many fish can you have in a ten gallon tank?

well when getting fish for your fish tank you have to take in to consideration the adult size of the fish if not your going to over stock and your fish might get very ill or even die
a good adult size for fancy goldfish are about 6 inches
with your to goldfish now and your im assuming there catfish or plecos id say your pushing it as it is
its good for them now but your going to have to get a bigger tank in the future
so no more goldfish now but maybe in the future

You cannot keep more than 1 fancy goldfish in a 10 gallon aquarium. Period. And that includes bottom feeders, which it sounds like you have, based on your description of hiding in logs and not coming out much. If you take care of goldfish and give them a proper home and care and maintenance and don't kill them early for lack of providing these things, fancy goldfish can grow to 8-12 inches in size. At this size, you will need about a 30 gallon tank just for one fish. I have a 60 gallon tank and only have 4 fancy goldfish and this is the limit. So, please, take back your goldfish and get some other tropical fish that stay small, like SoupNazi suggested, except that I would say avoid any fish that get larger than 2 inches. I promise you, with all the fish you have in that tiny tank, even just these 2 goldfish will die, let alone any more you might add.

Sorry, but you can't keep any Goldfish in a 10 gallon tank, they just get too big. Fantail Goldfish get 8 inches long, so a 10 gallon tank is just unsuitable... If your tank is coldwater (which is what Goldfish need), you should think about getting a large group of Minnows (11). They will be more fun than Goldfish. But if you have a heated tank, you might want to try a school of Tetras (Neon, Cardinal, Phantom, Black Skirt) or Killifish and a Dwarf Gourami and maybe 3 Kuhli Loaches. You might want to use sand as substrate instead of gravel, it is more interesting. Make sure you wash it very well before putting it in your tank though. I added some links on info for each fish. Good luck!
Also, avoid fish that get more than 4 inches long, they can be a problem in such a small tank...

goldfish are not small pets. Common goldfish top out at like 21-24 inches.

Fancy goldfish will end up smaller but at least 12 inches. The problem is that they are dirty and will die soon because they are stunted in a 10 gallon. I would upgrade as soon as possible.

My goldfish are in a 75 gallon tank now with 2 canister filters.

As of now, i would say no more as goldfish are not for ten gallons.

When you are getting gold fish you must remember that they are one of the dirtiest fish and they really can destory water quality quickly!! I think you should stay with the two only. They grow quickly as well
