Only living organisms are alive. Heterosexuality is a sexual preference, an idea, and was never truly alive. It was simply in operation.
If you mean to ask whether the species Homo sapiens is showing a trend to give up heterosexuality, then the answer becomes more complex. The current trend does suggest that more of the population appear to be homosexual now than previously. The question is, to what extent will the trend continue? Taken to its logical conclusion, the species becomes extinct when every member becomes homosexual, so complete loss of heterosexuality is unlikely.
But homosexuality is not an either or proposition. Some level of bisexuality can be well tolerated, biologically. Hermathrodites might be another way to go. Would either of these be considered a form of heterosexuality? Thank Darwin I won't be here to find out.

Heterosexuality is alive and well in east Los Angeles but only if you look hard for it under the bushes.

Yes nothing really changes about all that except for attitudes.
The ancient Greeks and Romans stuck it into any hole they could find and never thought twice about it.

Well, I don't think it is alive because it is not a living organism.
