What would be conservatives and democrates opinion of someone (fairly highly qualified) who cannot get a job (because of high levels of male unemployement)in their own area, and they cannot afford to leave or travel?
Do parties have any practical solutions?
Would you be against paying them a lot more benefit to get out and set up somewhere else?
Or would you do everything possible to prevent this and let them rot.

"There are no jobs" is the hallmark of the individual who has no hope.
There are *always* jobs. Go get one, or create one yourself...if you cannot create your own job, then you do not have the requisite skill or desire. Time to refocus your energies on improving yourself, not blaming others for not giving you a job.

I am about as right-wing as they come and with respect to this question to the right of conservatives as I am an economic libertarian. I would not be opposed to helping this person. It has to be a two way street. My solution would be to find an area of the country where his talents are in the greatest need and agree to subsidize him for a short time (30 days expenses after finding employment + travel) and let him build up in this new area that needs his skill set. No one is against this. The main issue is the difference between deserving and undeserving poor. Liberals are against making this distinction. The conservative position is not to help someone in need at no fault of their own. We are, however, against subsidizing the lifestyle of those who contribute nothing, wish to contribute nothing, commit crimes, don't work, and are intoxicated. A person who is employable in some skill set required job as you describe, could be subsidized for a short time in the new area, save money during that time, and be back on his feet in no time. If that doesn't work, do what my Father did, join the military.

Couldn't make up my mind where you are from on reading your question, even though you ask about Democrates etc! So I had a glance at your profile , I still don't know, not that it really matters. I like your previous questions and answers.
After that bit of a ramble I credit you with enough intelligence to know that no political party gives a sh*t where you work as long as you are off their list of unemployed.
I cant say I was ever in your position, but I was always looking for some thing 'better'!
I am (fairly highly qualified) I went overseas on contract work, bal*s to the government!
It cost me nothing to travel etc, and I made about 3 times my UK wage.
This idea of course wont appeal to all because of family commitments etc, but don't rely on any help from any political party.
I seem to recall what I got was a tax rebate on my previous years tax payments, that was it!
Good luck in your search but don't just sit there expecting government aid, you wont get it!
They (all) just want you off this magic unemployed list!

I think that should be an option. I think we should apply FDR's WPA program to people on welfare to transition them off welfare. Get them to work in the community and have the government pay them a living wage. Or, give them enough money to get some kind of 2 year education or job training so they can lead productive lives that contribute to society. That would be the end of welfare as we know it and the people could move into the private sector once they get training. That way people don't have to leave their communities if they don't want to. And, it would create a better community and make people more productive and live a better life. The system we have now is costly and way too inefficient.

Anyone who WANTS to work, can find a job! Work however, very rarely comes looking for you!
Some jobs can drop right into your lap,it does occasionally happen, but it is rare!
Even if you wash dishes, or sling hash, its a job, and you can be proud of yourself!
But sorry, baby, I don't know of anyone who will find a job for you!
Demographics as far as political parties, does not matter when you are looking for work!

well I live in a town were there is no jobs, because it's 90% Dems in the local government here the y are this town into the ground.
I guess that would be up to the company on pay scales, and they would have to decide if it got into the politcal arena which will help the local economy more, my guess is they wouldn't want to have people leaving the town.
We have businesses and people leaving here for the suburbs and it's partly because the local government is against businesses for some reason they can't work with them, and then they complain and make th businesses out to be the bad guy for leaving when they drove them to leave.

Sometimes when I hear this about highly qualified or various combinations of this. their is a nasty little thought that creeps in. Does this person think that the world owes them a living and that attitude stops them from getting one of the jobs that are or will be available?

Why do you think it's the govts. job to get you a job?
If someone is highely qualified in one area, with a little effort he or she could be qualified in another.
In the meantime drive a limo, work at HomeDepot, until you can re-invent yourself.
When one door closes another one opens. Nobody but you can find and walk thru that other door.
