Religion is just an excuse. The Crusades were fought in the name of religion. Early Christians were persecuted by the Romans and, failing to learn from this lesson, now feel free to persecute others of different faiths. Truly spiritual people of any religion are not the ones fighting. . . it's all fanatics who are unable to tolerate any diversity who are causing the problems. And at least in the case of Iraq, religion was the only thing that was keeping the peace until Bush took out Saddam Hussein. There was an uneasy balance among the three religious sects, but with Hussein gone, the balance is gone and the killing is out of control. Rather than ban religions, we should ban hypocrisy. You can't claim to be religious if you foment wars and hate people of other faiths. That should be a capital offense.

Banning religion is not the answer, as Mary Tudor discovered in the 1550's, and James ll in the 18th century. Disputes over religious doctrine, or dogma have caused wars for millennia. We might try banning war, but that hasn't worked either (look at the Middle East). There is no easy solution as often the opposing sides will not talk intelligently to each other, much less listen. For me, as an atheist, it seems ridiculous that all the great religions in the world worship just one God, but their arguments are about the "best" way to do it! Perhaps they should all grow up!!!!!!!!!

Not religion. Religion is good. Uneducated people being manipulated by the haves to kill each other for their profit is the real problem.
Educate people, give them a religious education of the parents ' choice and make sure they can feed themselves.
Oh, and get rid of every rich person on the face of this planet.
You see. There will be no more war.

I do not believe in religion.
Too many people have died because of it, you always get the same response....oh well people use religion in the wrong way to cause wars..
I believe in science, not make believe. If there is a god why does he allow such suffering, the tsunami, children starving..aids,cancer etc etc. some loveing God....huh
Yes people are to blame for fighting wars, but the majority of the wars are over religion.
I would ban it, it has no place in todays world where we all have proof of how we got here thanks to science.
I don't mean to offend anyone, these are just my opinions. I wish I could have a faith that there is something better than this, but I don't.

'Religion without science is rather boring, Science without Religion is BLIND', (Einstein) Religion is not the cause of wars, it is hijacked by those who want to attach a moral credibility to there naked lust for wealth & power. By all means 'do away with it', and i hope you enjoy the consequence of the other idealogies that emerge as they have in the past when you try to bannish people rights to religious freedom.

The only war and unrest would be in the mind and that is where the peace will come first.

What a beautiful world that would be. Religion is the ultimate poison. A great book to read on the subject is "God is Not Great - How Religion Poisons Everything" by Christopher Hitchens. It's a wonderful book.

It's funny that people say that. As if the total lack of religion would lead to peace? As if a caveman wouldn't have picked up a club and hit another guy in the head without a moral code to tell him that murder is wrong.
Religion keeps order in society. Without it, everyone would be subject to their own interpretations of what's right. Some people would inevitably be wrong, and without the fear of a higher power, they'd become bullies.
Perhaps you think the law would prevent chaos. Unless you hope to live in a police state, I think you should learn to appreciate the role of religion in taming mankind.
