I would say luck most definitely. People cannot choose their race, class or gender, and that has some of the most affect on success. If you think it's hard work that gives you what you want out of life, just ask the millions of sweatshop workers or the migrant farmworkers in this country, or the manual laborers. I would say they work much harder than most people with privilege in this country could even imagine. Sure they can "pull up by their bootstraps" and "make it" but those cases are few and far between. Usually it's the people who are born with support systems (money, networks, etc) that get what they want out of life.

There is no such thing as luck. You need to be goal oriented and decide what you want to do and then get the education to fulfill that goal. then get a job and work hard and don't spend your money on clothes, drugs, alcohol, or boys.

Both. Opportunity is often random, and without opportunity, hard work can't get you anywhere.

its a little bit of everything. you can't work hard if you don't have determintation. I don't think luck has to do with anything.
