My cousin recently told me that while she was pregnant her doctor told her not to swim in the ocean or lakes. Now I live right across the street from the Ocean, so needless to say I am in it all the time! My doctor didnt mention it to me, and I didnt think to ask, I just figured swimming was okay. But now I am a bit worried. Have any of you ever been told that??

It is not recommended that you go swimming or even go in a bathtub toward the last few weeks of your pregnancy. This is because your cervix may have started to dialate and being that it is opened, it can introduce bacteria to your unborn child. Other than that, you are fine to swim to your hearts content.
Good luck to you

Just let me make clear that

"It is not recommended that you go swimming or even go in a bathtub toward the last few weeks of your pregnancy. This is because your cervix may have started to dialate and being that it is opened, it can introduce bacteria to your unborn child."

is insane.

"As an experiment using a starch-impregnated tampon and iodine in the water proved, bath water does not enter the vagina."

(never mind magically travel to your baby, who's still tucked inside his bag of waters). I'm also of the opinion that your cousin's doctor is a bozo, and that you should enjoy swimming (and bathing) in any body of water that appeals to you.

I -- not normally by the coast -- was in the ocean a couple of weeks ago, and it was fantastic. The buoyancy's really nice for your back.

Google stuff like "swimming pregnancy" and "swimming ocean pregnancy." Nobody thinks it a bad idea besides your cousin. Enjoy!

how do you think of the salt interior the water will harm the toddler? it won't wade by using to the toddler, do in basic terms not drink it, and beware for the surf, don't get overwhelmed up with it. I used to stay via the sea in Hawaii, and the girls over there went swimming each and every of the time mutually as preggers.

Yes you can swim in the ocean.......there is no reason that you could not unless there were some complications that he/she recommend that you not swim at all...it is very low impact exercise......

swimming is safe, don't overdo it and don't swim out too far. But you do not need to restrict yourself from the ocean, lake, pool, bathtub ect.

Never been told that and never heard it. Did she tell you why her doc said that? Sounds like an old wives tale to me!
