When A-Rod breaks the record a lot of the fuss will disappear, but for now it is all about Barry Bonds.

I think it's because all of the younger people here don't know anything about true baseball and it's history. They only want to know what's happening now and what MTV and the media tells them to believe.
I watched Henry Aaron hit the 715th HR and was sure it was years since the record stood. Now, the hoopla is because it's over 30 years since and now Barry Bonds will hit the HR that passes it up.
I guess the younger people have some form of ESP or can predict the future..... Who knows, it may be an unknown slugger or Ken Griffey Jr. to pass Barry's record..... A-Rod may win the NY Lottery, be more than set for life and quit baseball! Anything is possible!
I just wished there were more intelligent questions asked here other than:
"Hope someone breaks the record other than Barry"
"Barroid, Steroid"
"Nyah, nyah, nyah, Barry's gonna lose....."
"Roger Maris is still the record holder with 61....."
"Hank Aaron is king of the world"
These are all stupid and don't make any sense. It's a free country to say what you want, but please make sense or get an education..... I hate ignorant people.....

A-rod would break the record but it would not be anytime soon. He would need at least 5-8 more seasons before he would break the all-time HR list. I would be a College Freshman by that time for crying out loud.
However, did you know that if A-Rod stay awfully consistent until his retiring age of, say around, 42, he would break the ALL-TIME HR record that was set by a japanese player in the Japanese league which is 858.
A-Rod is an investment these days (i myself got an A-Rod 1994 rookie card when he was with the Mariners, projecting to cost around tens of millions).
But now let's just focus on Barry and look at his path to break Hank Aaron's personal property

There's a huge difference in hitting 5 more like Barry needs to, and 270 like A-Rod needs to. A-Rod has been healthy his whole career, but there is no way to know that will continue for the next 7-10 years so he can break the record. I don't like either player all that much, but I'd much rather see A-Rod with the record, but its too early to say that he'll break it for sure like you can for Bonds. Get back to me when he's within 5 and I'll make big deal about him too.

The point is that had Bonds remained honest, he would have finished his career with around 600 home runs, and that would've been a phenomenal total, first among players I would have actually seen. (Aaron retired right before I was old enough to start watching games on TV and really understanding what was happening. I have seen him, at ballparks and the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, but didn't have the chance to see him play, not even in an Old-Timers' Game.)
McGwire, Sosa, Canseco, these guys "needed" to cheat. Bonds did not. That's what makes him the most offensive of all. (Palmiero was just fine without steroids; the jury is still out on Sheffield, whether he really used them and whether he needed to.)
A-Rod, if not him then Pujols, SOMEBODY surpassing Bonds on the all-time list can't happen soon enough. Until this as-yet-undetermined player does, Aaron is still the real all-time leader. And I hope Hank lives long enough to see someone surpass Bonds (he's 73 now).

Well is he stays on pace then yes. But you never know, he could get injured, he could have one or two off years. Anything could happen. And even if A-Rod is going to break it, Bonds is going to be the record holder for at least a time, which is still a big deal.

Barroid Bonds doesn't care what people think about him. But all this hoopdeedo about him breaking the record is pointless. I say that because A-rod will hit 834 or so,and then after all that is said and done then you got Pujols will break A-rods record by hitting over 850 homers or so. To answer your question I don't know why all these people care about what Barroid does. It all just pointless to me.

Barry Bonds is a legend. If he cheated, why is he still in the league? Oh, maybe because the rules were not clear cut on the topic. Cut down on the haterade and give the man the respect he deserves.
Hank Aaron hit his homeruns in a smaller park, you gonna call him a cheater?

Bonds is still a cheater and still going to break the record.
Also, Arod looks solid to break the record, but there was a time everyone was sure Griffey Jr. would do it; you never know how things will play out.

Barring a major injury Rodriguez should break the record eventually.
