I know Memphis is an old city but isnt there lots to do in memphis? is it safe? I know Elvis made it popular though :)

my niece lives in the historical area. My sister live s in germantown just up poplar road from memphis. There are bad areas( some are very bad) in memphis... i would consider the historical area by the uni of memphis or germantown. There is stuff to do... mud island, bb kings, gibson guitar factory( highly recommend and it has a bar on the roof too),national civil rights museum( lorraine motel where king was assasinated.. i highly recommend this to visit its very moving and informative) fed ex arena, rendevous bbq, memphis zoo, pink palace museum, pyramid, graceland,peabody hotel, peabody mall, bike trails along the mississipi, staxx records and anything on beale street.. o and rum boogie cafe is kinda fun. The weather is hot and very humid. If you like nature there are many rivers in tennesee itself to canoe or raft or float as well as camping. One thing though i have neverbeen to boise and my husband has and i have been to memphis alot and my husband hasnt and he says boise is mountainous and pretty so iff youre an out doorsy kind of person you might reallly miss the nature but at least you can get more of a southern exposure to bicycling along the mississippi and some nice camping in tennesee. You can find safe areas around just about any city. Memphis and its surrounding areas have plenty to do. I would just take into account that the climate is going to wear heavy on you if you're not used to the humidity.
