We never even get to see Gross pay when we get our paychecks. We get the net pay (after taxes) which in some cases are close to 50% lower so why do the courts use gross pay? Is that fair?

It's just like when advertisers have things for sale. They say something is $99.99 and in small letters it says (after rebate). The item is really $150 because when you purchase it, you pay $150 and when you apply for the rebate, you never get it because they supposedly "received it late"

Because, of the poor mommy thinking and it is all your fault. And most importantly because they say so.

The truth is because there is more sympathy in legislation for the poor forgotten Mommies than us "Dead Beat Dads".

You not only get the opportunity to pay on gross but you get to pay the taxes on it and it can be so high you can't make the payment and live thus creating more "Dead Beat Dads"

Who ever said you get to claim the children does not know the law and yes it varies by state. You may or more often may not do to the law that states the child must live in your home to be able to claim them on taxes, however if your child support order or divorce decree states you you can claim the child you can then.

Whoever said that they can't touch over time is dumber than spit, in most states they can go after one job or the equivalent of a 40 hour a week job. They figure it based on your W2 and last I checked W2's don't break out overtime. Most of us already have to have more than one job just to pay child support and live.

Wake up you are a Non-Custodial Parent you have NO Rights get used to it OR fight back and lobby your state legislator for change. Some of us are paying our support, and should not be lumped in to "Dead Beat Dads"

Because your money is going to your children (supposedly) and the government doesn't tax children, so they take that amount out of your check pre-tax.
Sucks doesn't it? You can't claim child support on your federal tax return (even thought technically it is a child care expense) and your ex doesn't have to pay any taxes on it!

The government usually gives people some tax refunds, when these people support dependents.

It would be too complicated to track and document all the salaray deductions for each individual.

Because you deduct children on your taxes from your gross pay.

Because those employed in the court system get a big fat paycheck and don't have to work for a living so they just screw you to the max. It's called life.

They base child support on 40 hours per week, if you work 45,50,60 hours they can't touch that so on average it works out.

If they used net pay, then you could stick it all in an anuity, give it away to charity, etc and then claim to have a net of zero. Duh.
