Welllll. Nothing good comes from arguing with them. I have to assume you are not a victim of abuse. Your question is somewhat vague. My response is that you not argue with them and follow the household rules.

Don't trash them to your friends or other family members, or your friends will trash them back with you. This is a loaded question.

For mutual respect I would suggest to you that you do special things around the house...help with dishes, cleaning, just easy stuff. Gain respect and pride from them. That's not a hard thing to.
When they see that you take pride in the family, they will respect you and it'll be easy to respect them in return. You make it happen. If you didn't want to, you wouldn't be asking this question, right? Cheers!

Respect is an assumption of good faith and competence in another person or in the whole of oneself. Depth of integrity, trust, complementary moral values, and skill are necessary components.

Respect adds general reliability to social interactions. It enables people to work together in a complimentary fashion, instead of each person having to understand or even agree with every detail of another's method

simply treating others in the manner you want to be treated. It reflects your character to others as well as them to you. It seems we will gripe more about someone being rude or disrespectful than acknowleding how nice they were. Its because most of us do know its the right way to act and basically expect it, I know I do. Respect is freely given and in certain situations it must be earned.
