I don't know exactly how to word this, so I'm gonna try the best I can. I had a sort of...realization, I suppose. I realized that I live such a sheltered life, it hit me that the biggest obstacle I have to face during the day is which outfit to wear or which car to drive to school. When there are people who have the weight of the world on their shoulders every single day, people that are dying because they don't have enough food or good health care. I really want to give something back or do charity work or something...something to make myself feel like I actually have a purpose here, that I'm needed. And not that my ultimate goal in life is shop and spend money. So please, if you could direct me to any sites that tell you what you can do to volunteer I would appreciate it so much. Thanks in advance

Actually that's pretty mature of you. Most youngsters (and I'm assuming you're a youngster) only think of themselves.

Ask your guidance counselor at school or your family pastor for some orgs that accept volunteers.

Here are some things to consider:

what are your interests? sports, music, art, working on cars - whatever they are, try to tailor your volunteer efforts towards those areas.

How much time do you have to spare. Just the summer? an hour a week? Note this so you don't get overwhelmed with your volunteering - and let other aspects of your life slip by (such as studying).

BTW - an hour a week spent with an "adopted" grandparent at a nursing home may be the most fulfilling thing you'll ever do.

Jesus says we should do our good deeds as a thief in the night. That means, downplay your good works. They're for making YOU feel good - not for pushing onto others - whose life goal may indeed be shopping and spending money.

That said, good for you! I'm impressed.

they have things like breast cancers organizations and pounds for homeless pets. They had veteran shelters and organization that do food drives. You can raise money for kids with diseases..

You can always call those commercials with the children in the countries that have no home or little food. They'll send you a picture and i thinks its 80cents a day. That would be really nice.
Go to your local gov't center and ask them about charities and drives to raise money. If not.. do it on your own with cans of money or baking sales and then turn in the money to the organization of your choice
hope this helps

No. Admitting to your flaws isn't selfish unless you had the epiphany and refused to change.

But since you realize there is more to life than material things and are willing to act on it you aren't selfish at all.

I don't know of specific websites but you can always volunteer...

~Old folks homes
~Mentoring through Big Brother/Big Sister
~Habitat for Humanity
~Deliver meals on wheels to housebound seniors
~Visit ill children in the hospital
~Help out a military family around their home or with their children while one of the parents is deployed

If you want to make it more personal, contact a local church and see who in your area needs help the most. A minister or preacher should be able to point you in the right direction to those with the most immediate needs.

Good luck!

Let me tell you some things you can do there where you are. There are always underprivileged students in every school. You never know some peoples parents may be struggling to keep their child in a private school. Go to your Principal and propose a student help fund. Raise money for those who can't afford to pay school fees, lunch, uniforms, field trips, etc...

they are comfortable and have difficulty controlling their thoughts, yet some do take care of it properly. I doubt they are egocentric yet they may well be possessive and obsessed with their love. how in the international would you recognize if a shellfish is egocentric?
