Call the state child support number for the state that you live in. They will tell you. But if he is the father and it says so on the birth certificate then he probably will have to pay back child support, unless he has no money and then its just a piece of paper that says he has to pay something he doesn't even have the money for and you will never see any money anyways. You have to ask yourself is it worth it.

Yes, and he'll owe you back child support too. Get a lawyer! If you can't afford that, most states have free services, call the child support office. Typically the process is slower (like up to 6 months) but it's free to you. Only bad thing is, not all states will go back to collect past child support since there weren't orders already in place for collection, but you could get money now forward.

Why did you let this go on for so long? He was responsible for support of that child from day one! This guy is a dead beat from the word go and he probably thinks he can continue to get away with it. That is of course, you get some kind of legal aid and sue his miserable hide for all he is worth; however much that could be. Whatever the case he owes you a ton of cash so you need to stop procrastinating and get an attorney and go after him-pronto. So get all the necessary paperwork together, track him down and make him stop mocking you and the system that is there for people who are in the same bind.

Get an attorney you should be able to even collect all the back child support. Courts really frown on dead beats mom's or dad's if you have children you have to support them. Good Luck to You.

Actually, I think you can. If he left you and he's the biological father and hasn't taken any financial responsibility for your child then yes, I think you can get child support.

Call your local CS office and have them start a case if one hasn't been done already. It's pretty simple. Getting the money is the hard part.

A good lawyer can take your case and get you back-support from this deadbeat. They can garnish his wages providing you have proof that he's the father and he has a job.
