If i moved out of the unit on the 2nd of July and returned the keys that day around 8pm. The landlord recieved the keys upon there arrival in the morning the following day because they were closed. They are saying i must pay for the full day on the 3rd even though i returned key on the 2nd because the did not regain possesion of the unit until the 3rd. I think that is not right because i returned keys on the 2nd, i should not be held responsible because they were not there. I put the keys exactly where they lease says to put the rent. If i were to pay the rent on the 2nd and they recieved it on the 3rd as long as it was in the drop box upon there arrival i would not be charged a late fee. I think the same should go towards returnng keys.
Please advise

I would re-read the fine print in your agreement, but based on the info you provided, I would agree with the landlord in your case. Think of banks "deposits made after 3pm are posted for the next business day". If you didn't return the keys during their business hours on the 2nd, then your keys are not considered returned until the 3rd.

you have until 5:00 to return the keys. normal business hours. if u failed to do so and didnt get approval before hand then you are responsible for the following day. you should have gotten permission to do so beforehand so you would not be held liable, stinks but it makes sence.

i agree with nova, if the keys were returned after the manager's normal business hours, then technically, you didn't return the keys until the 3rd.

did you reiceve a letter saying they had to be back by a certian time?? if so then i think you have no right to complain. I'm assuming there office isn't open on 8pm, if you needed to be moved out by a certian time post places like it to be done during bussiness hours, since it was off hours they have no proof of what time you turned it in.
