I have an HDTV usb tuner ($89) running on an older Acer laptop (about 4 years old) and am very happy with the picture. I would say the picture is as good if not better than most standard TV's.
Believe me, just buy it! You won't be sorry.

Depends on the type of tuner and the type of laptop you have. Check the specs on the tuner and it will tell you if it is capable of HDTV. Then check to be sure that the video card in your laptop is supports by the tunner card. Usually you will find that they are.
If you have an HDTV card and a supported laptop video card, they picture you get is as good as a standard HDTV. If you are going to watch DVDs and digital cable, it is great.
(Sound also may be another issue, as most laptops only have so-so audio cards in them.)

Computers do support HDTV playback...
What really matters though, is the SCREEN resolution and the TVs resolution, while you can play HDTV on anything, the actual screen on the tv or pc is what determins whether you SEE the quality or not.
It also depends on your internet speed, if you are streaming items...
Streaming is usually LOW quality unless you have a really good speed connection...
NOTHING is as good as the quality on an HD DVD
