It depends, you have to tell us where you are going to study. If you want an MBA from Zimbabwe, probably not.

I assume you meant "abroad".

I studied in Germany and Australia and consider it a highly valuable educational experience. It's a way to learn about other languages and cultures and to broaden your perspective on the world.

If I had to sum up my experiences learning and teaching abroad (I also taught in Hong Kong and Australia) I would say two things are true:

1. People are people no matter where you go. We share more in common with each other than we realize.

2. All societies have both good and bad parts to them. No society is perfect. I love the US but I still hold dear and respect some of the cultural values of other countries.

If you have a chance to study abroad, by all means, go. Enjoy and learn.

Yes, yes, yes! One of the best things you can do; it will expand you emotionally and intellectually. You'll learn about a different culture, develop language skills, make new friends, and mature a great deal. It's also an interesting thing to note when you start looking for jobs or applying to graduate school. It's not all fun and easy; it can be hard living in a different county, but it's absolutely worthwhile. (I chose to study in Barcelona, Spain-loved it and was fluent in Spanish by the time I left)

I don't know about studying directly, but a lot of college kids and new graduates go to Europe and travel during the summer, riding the trains from one place to the next, staying in Youth Hostels, backpacking all the way. They learn a lot they go about history and the culture and geography.

Yes.

No matter how much you study and no matter how much you read, your ideas and opinions are currently fixed from the point of view of Americans. (assuming you are an American)

When you study abroad, you will quickly find out, what you thought as right and wrong are, for most part, just opinions - an opinion that is only correct among Americans. When you go outside and see from outside, you will, all the sudden, realize, you/we are just a small piece of the world.

VERY good. You'll gain new experiences, meet new people, learn about a new culture, and generally be a smarter and better person for it. There are few things better.

College professors always mention it's a really good experience and that it looks real good on your resume. Plus there's nothing to lose, you get to see what another culture is all about . . .
